Va. man accused of wounding teen with pencil

SPRINGVILLE, Va. (AP) — A Tazewell County man faces charges of wounding a teenager with a pencil fired from a crossbow.

Media outlets report that the incident occurred Saturday at a residence in Springvale.

Sheriff Brian Hieatt tells the Bluefield Daily Telegraph (http://bit.ly/1jePuvM ) that a 15-year-old boy was shot in the face with a pencil fired from a hand-held mini crossbow.

Hieatt says police charged 18-year-old Austin Smith with reckless endangerment, a felony.

The 15-year-old was taken to a hospital for treatment. His condition wasn’t known.
