Friedel extends stay at Tottenham

LONDON (AP) — Veteran American goalkeeper Brad Friedel has signed a new one-year contract with Tottenham, where he will also take up an ambassador role from next season.

Friedel, who won 82 caps with the United States during his international career, has been playing in the Premier League for 17 years. He joined Tottenham in 2011 after stints at Liverpool, Blackburn and Aston Villa. The 43-year-old Friedel has been recently used as cover for first-choice keeper Hugo Lloris at Spurs.

Tottenham said in a statement on Monday that Friedel will become a club ambassador from next season with a particular focus on the club’s development in the United States.
