Lifeguard found dead in Prince George’s pool

NEW CARROLLTON, Md. (AP) — Police and fire officials are investigating the death of a lifeguard found unconscious in a pool where he worked in the New Carrollton area.

Authorities say the man was found floating in the pool of an apartment complex Saturday afternoon. Rescuers performed CPR, but authorities say the man could not be revived.

It’s not clear how the man ended up in the water or how he died.

Prince George’s County fire department spokesman Mark Brady says the pool’s management company tried to contact the lifeguard Saturday and sent someone to check on him when he did not respond. Brady says the lifeguard was wearing shoes when he was found. Officials believe he may have been cleaning the pool before it was to open for the day.
