Greece’s departure for World Cup delayed

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Greece’s departure for its World Cup training base in Brazil has been delayed after its flight was canceled in the United States.

The Hellenic Football Federation says “due to a technical problem of the navigation system of the airplane the flight of the national team from New Jersey to Aracaju (Brazil) was canceled.”

Greece was due to leave Newark for Brazil early Saturday morning, shortly after beating Bolivia 2-1 in a World Cup warm-up friendly Friday night at New Jersey’s Red Bull Arena.

The Football Association says “FIFA is already informed and the national team will stay overnight” in the United States.

The team’s first Group C match is against Colombia in Belo Horizonte on June 14.
