Commissioner of Va. Dept. of Ag named

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The acting commissioner of the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is dropping part of her title.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe has named Sandra “Sandy” Adams commissioner of the department. She had been acting commissioner and served more than three years as deputy commissioner.

Adams has served almost 20 years at the department, which promotes the economic growth and development of agriculture and provides consumer protection.

Besides her career at VDACS, Adams served 12 years at the Department of Taxation.

McAuliffe announced her permanent appointment on Friday.
