Swimmer identified in Howard County swimming accident

WASHINGTON — The search for a 19-year-old swimmer in the Triadelphia Reservoir ended Friday afternoon when divers found his body.

The 19-year-old man has been identified as Avery Troix Williams, who swam in the reservoir with a group before 6 p.m. Wednesday. He went missing when witnesses say he went underwater and didn’t come up for air. According to Howard County police, Williams began struggling in the water before he went underneath.

Swimming in that reservoir is not allowed.

Montgomery County Police are investigating the death.

Rescuers and searchers from Charles County and NRP assisted and brought in an outside scanner/sonar.

The search started around 7 a.m. and the man’s body was found after 2 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
