Son makes good on promise to get dad ’57 Chevy

WASHINGTON — It must’ve sounded sweet to hear the 8-year-old promise his dad he’ll buy him his dream car — a 1957 Chevy — for his 57th birthday.

But for a man named Michael King, who recently shared his story on Reddit.com, his promise to dad many years ago was more than cute, it just became a reality, as he gave over the keys to an aqua blue Bel Air in the garage of their home.

“Growing up my dad always dreamed of owning a 57 chevy bel-air. He grew up poor in a family of 7 children,” he said in an explanation accompanying a video of the moment, posted to YouTube on June 1.

Since then, the heartwarming video has gone viral.

“He never thought he would be able to own his dream vehicle but would talk about it all the time,” King wrote.

“When I was 8 years old I promised him that on his 57th birthday I would buy him a 57 bel-air. I never forgot and was able to fulfill my promise.”

The video shows dad lured out into the driveway on a ruse to fix the family’s old cornhole game board. When he notices what is sitting in the garage awaiting him, the tears begin to fall.

The rest, well, see for yourself:
