LARGO, Md. (AP) — Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown’s bid to become Maryland’s next governor has received wide backing from Maryland political leaders and a long string of endorsements from a variety of organizations.

But questions about his role in leading troubled health care reform efforts in Maryland have opened him up to sharp criticism as he campaigns down the stretch of the Democratic primary. He says despite the problems, Maryland still exceeded its goal of 260,000 enrollments, largely due to a high number of Medicaid enrollments.

Brown is coming off of a legislative session in which lawmakers approved a package of measures he advocated to address domestic violence. Brown says his work on legislation to fight domestic violence in recent years represents his most effective accomplishments as lieutenant governor.
