Suspect in Va. motel shooting to have evaluation

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — A man accused of firing a rifle from the roof of a Roanoke motel will undergo a mental evaluation.

Police arrested 42-year-old Sean Michael Lovelace of Roanoke following the May 14 shooting at the Starlite Motel. No one was injured.

The Roanoke Times (http://bit.ly/1i6hd1x ) reports that Roanoke General District Court Judge Frederick King approved a defense motion requesting the evaluation on Thursday.

Lovelace’s lawyer, Kathleen Pritts, sought the evaluation to determine whether he is competent to stand trial.

Lovelace is charged with possessing a firearm as a felon. He was convicted of aggravated sexual battery in Botetourt County in 2001.
