Chesapeake man dies after being hit by train

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP) — Police say a Chesapeake man who was hit by a train has died.

Chesapeake police spokeswoman Kelly O’Sullivan tells media outlets that investigators believe 63-year-old Robert Q. Godfrey was walking his bicycle across the tracks when he was hit by an Amtrak train Tuesday night.

O’Sullivan says Godfrey died Wednesday morning at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Amtrak spokeswoman Kimberly Woods says 39 passengers were on the train at the time. She says the train travels daily from Boston to Norfolk.
