Brewers set to activate 3B Ramirez from DL

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Brewers are set to activate Aramis Ramirez from the disabled list after the third baseman was sidelined more than three weeks with a strained left hamstring.

Ramirez returned to the team Tuesday after a two-day rehab stint in the minors. Milwaukee plans to bring Ramirez back for Wednesday night’s game at Minnesota, where the right-handed slugger can serve as designated hitter in an American League park.

Ramirez was hitting .252 with five homers and 21 RBIs when he got hurt May 11 during a 6-5 win over the Yankees. He went on the disabled list two days later.

The rest of the lineup has picked up the slack since Ramirez was sidelined, so much so that he may not return initially to his customary cleanup position in the order.

Utility man Elian Herrera was optioned to Triple-A Nashville following Milwaukee’s 6-4 loss Tuesday night to Minnesota to make room on the roster for Ramirez.
