Champ Golovkin will fight Geale on July 26 at MSG

NEW YORK (AP) — Middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin has finalized a deal to fight Australia’s Daniel Geale on July 26 in the main arena at Madison Square Garden.

Golovkin (29-0, 26 KOs) is the WBA’s 160-pound champion after 15 consecutive stoppage victories. He beat Osumana Adamu in February for his fifth victory in less than 14 months.

Geale (30-2) is among the world’s top middleweights despite losing his IBF title to Darren Barker by split decision last August. He has lost just once in 10 bouts over the past five years.

After missing two months of training following his father’s death in the spring, Golovkin’s camp attempted to land a lucrative pay-per-view bout with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., who turned it down.
