Police say the young boy who was hit by a car last week in downtown Bethesda ran out into the road and no charges were filed against the driver involved.

Montgomery County Police spokesperson Blanca King said no charges were filed because the pedestrian, reported by MCFRS to be a 12-year-old, wasn’t at an intersection. The incident happened near the Landow Building entrance on St Elmo Avenue, during a driving rain storm last Tuesday night.

King didn’t have any further information on the condition of the victim, who was reported to have serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

A commenter on last week’s post claimed to have been driving behind the driver who hit the pedestrian, and said the kid ran out into the middle of the street:

i was driving behind the driver that hit him. i saw the kid DART into the street, while i doubt it was enough time for the driver to stop without hitting him, & whoever he was with stayed behind, cars were passing by and we were not speeding due to the heavy rain. just hoping he makes a full recovery.

The collision happened just after 6:30 p.m. St Elmo Avenue had been cleared and reopened by 6:50 p.m.
