Va. offers free weekend of fishing next weekend

RICHMNOND, Va. (AP) — Virginia is letting anglers fish without a license for free next weekend.

The Virginia Marine Resources Commission and the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries are allowing the fishing to occur June 6 through June 8.

No fishing license of any kind will be required for recreational saltwater rod and reel fishing during free fishing days. All fishing regulations, including size, season, catch limits and gear restrictions, remain in effect.

After the free fishing weekend, annual freshwater and trout licenses are $23 and annual saltwater fishing licenses are $17.50. Short-term licenses also are available through the game and inland fisheries department.
