Karlovic stops against No. 19 Anderson at French

PARIS (AP) — Ivo Karlovic of Croatia stopped playing because of an injury after losing the first set of his third-round French Open match Saturday against 19th-seeded Kevin Anderson of South Africa.

Karlovic, at 35 the oldest man left in the field, dropped three games in a row to lose the opening set 6-3. He then was treated by a trainer, who massaged the 6-foot-11 (2.11-meter) Karlovic’s back.

Anderson moves into the fourth round at Roland Garros for the second year in a row, matching his best showing at any Grand Slam tournament. In 2013, he became the first man from South Africa to reach the round of 16 in Paris since Wayne Ferreira in 1996.
