Frostburg State officer charged with sex offense

FROSTBURG, Md. (AP) — A Frostburg State University police officer faces allegations he sexually assaulted a female freshman more than four years ago.

Forty-three-year-old Cpl. Jarrett Warnick didn’t immediately return a phone call or an emailed query Friday from The Associated Press. No defense attorney is listed in court records.

Maryland State Police charged Warnick Thursday with second-degree sex offense, second-degree assault and perverted practice. He is free on $50,000 bond.

Investigators say a recent graduate told university officials that Warnick engaged in a sexual act with her in a police vehicle while on duty in the fall of 2009. The alleged victim says she was 18 at the time.

Warnick has been suspended without pay. Police say they are considering bringing more charges against him.
