Freon leak prompts evacuation of Hampton hotel

HAMPTON, Va. (AP) — A hotel in Hampton was evacuated after a freon leak from an air-conditioning unit.

Hampton fire Capt. Jeffrey Pereira tells WAVY-TV (http://bit.ly/1o28hhd) that fire crews responded to the four-story Savannah Suites on Thursday.

Pereira says the leak occurred in a second-floor work room. The hotel was evacuated for several hours while the problem was checked and the hotel was ventilated.

Pereira says one person was evaluated at the scene but wasn’t transported for medical treatment.
