Champions League final rating up 36 percent in US

NEW YORK (AP) — Real Madrid’s win over crosstown rival Atletico in last weekend’s Champions League final drew a U.S. English-language television audience 36 percent higher than for Bayern Munich’s victory over Borussia Dortmund in last year’s title game.

Last Saturday’s match had a 1.1 rating and 3 share with 1.9 million viewers, Fox said Friday, up from a 0.9/2 and 1.4 million viewers last year.

The combined English- and Spanish-language U.S. audience of 3.1 million was up 48 percent from last year’s 2.1 million and was the second-most watched Champions League final on U.S. television behind the 4.2 million for Barcelona’s victory over Manchester United in 2011.
