Capitol’s visitors center reopens after white powder scare

WASHIHNGTON — The visitor center at the Capitol shut down Thursday for a little over an hour after a white, powdery substance was discovered at the entrance.

Capitol police confirm to WTOP that just after 9 a.m. they closed the center and its entrance after the white substance was found on the New Mexico statue.

Police say initial tests have found nothing hazardous, but on a cautionary note they kept the center closed to the public until all the tests were completed.
