Former Pittsburgh Steeler Alan Faneca to make his home in Redskins country

This might be Redskins country, but that apparently hasn’t kept former Pittsburgh Steelers guard Alan Faneca from planting roots in McLean.

Faneca, a nine-time All-Pro who helped the Steelers defeat the Seattle Seahawks in the 2006 Super Bowl, has paid $4 million for a five-bedroom home in Fairfax County’s Spring Hill Farm community. Faneca and his wife, Julie, bought the nearly 9,000-square-foot home, which was developed by Artisan Builders, May 13, according to Fairfax County land records.

Faneca played for 13 seasons in the National Football League, including for the Steelers, the New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals. He never wore the burgundy and gold, of course, but wife Julie was born in Virginia Beach and Faneca has been an active supporter of the Epilepsy Foundation of America, which is based in Landover, not far from FexEx Field.

The home was listed by Yeonas & Shafran Real Estate LLC. Stephen Yeonas declined to discuss what brought the Fanecas to Fairfax County.

The Fanecas paid about $1.5 million more for their home than Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III paid for his home in Loudoun County.
