Djokovic into 3rd round at French Open in 3 sets

PARIS (AP) — Avoiding the sort of surprise this French Open has been producing, second-seeded Novak Djokovic moved into the third round with a 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 victory over 42nd-ranked Jeremy Chardy.

Owner of six major trophies but never the champion at Roland Garros, Djokovic is trying to become the eighth man to complete a career Grand Slam.

He’s been to the semifinals five of the past seven years in Paris, losing to Rafael Nadal in the 2012 final.

Djokovic needed only about 1½ hours to eliminate Chardy and improve to 9-0 against the Frenchman. Djokovic has won all 22 sets they’ve played.
