WASHINGTON — Rain and gusty winds Tuesday evening led to power outages and damage around the region.

Fire officials say a woman in Germantown was hurt when lightning struck nearby while she was walking her dog, says Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer.

The woman was knocked to the ground and was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries, Piringer adds.

As of 8 a.m., there are more than 950 Pepco customers without power, most of which are in Montgomery County. A Pepco spokesperson says the utility company expects to have all customers’ power restored by the end of Wednesday.

More than 630 Dominion customers are in the dark in Northern Virginia. A majority of the outages are in Fairfax County.

There are reports of trees down in Montgomery Village, Warrenton, Arlington and many places in between. Wind gusts were reported in Germantown were reported to have reached 58 mph.
