WASHINGTON — Costumed flair and plenty of speed were the norm as bikes flew around a variety of courses at the Crystal City Phoenix Derby, held May 17 in an underground parking garage in Crystal City.

The derby is a partnership between the Crystal City Business Improvement District, Vornado/Charles E. Smith, and Phoenix Bikes, a non-profit that teaches area kids about bike repair, mechanics and community service, and a benefit for Phoenix Bikes.
