SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Police in Savannah say an infant girl has died after falling from a fifth-floor hotel balcony.

A police report says the parents of 9-month-old Sahana Shah told officers the baby kicked and jerked in her mother’s arms before tumbling from an atrium balcony inside the Hyatt Regency hotel on Savannah’s downtown riverfront.

Police say the child fell to the lobby floor and was rushed by ambulance to a hospital Friday night. Savannah-Chatham County police spokesman Julian Miller says the infant died from her injuries Sunday.

Miller says the girl’s family was visiting Savannah from Ashburn, Virginia, for Memorial Day weekend.

Miller says detectives from the department’s violent crimes unit are investigating, but no charges had been filed Tuesday afternoon.
