LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. (AP) — The military’s domestic outreach efforts are picking up steam as warm weather returns and funding for air shows and fleet week events have been restored.

The F-22 is the nation’s most advanced fighter jet, and is entering the heart of its air show schedule as summer nears. The Air Force had to cancel its F-22 Demonstration Team’s performance last year due to automatic spending cuts known as sequestration. Other military branches also canceled many of their outreach activities last year.

The Navy has also restored its popular fleet week programs on cities without a significant Navy presence on the East and West coasts. Through Tuesday, three Navy ships will be in New York and about 1,500 sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen will be interacting with city residents and offering tours.
