Culpeper mayor faces sexual battery charge

CULPEPER, Va. (AP) — Culpeper Mayor Chip Coleman is facing a misdemeanor sexual battery charge.

Media outlets report that Virginia State Police charged Coleman on Tuesday. Details haven’t been released.

Coleman’s attorney, Rex Edwards, says his client denies the allegations and will plead not guilty.

A June 4 hearing is scheduled in Culpeper General District Court.

Coleman was elected as mayor in 2010. He lost a re-election bid last week.
