WASHINGTON (AP) — The three championship-round questions from the 2014 National Geographic Bee, won by Akhil Rekulapelli, of Sterling, Virginia. Ameya Mujumdar, of Tampa, Florida, was runner-up:

1. Last summer, Crown Prince Philippe, the Duke of Brabant, became king of a European country after his father abdicated for health reasons. Name this country. Answer: Belgium. Both answered correctly.

2. Oyala, a planned city located in the rainforest 65 miles east of Bata, is being built as a new capital for which African country? Answer: Equatorial Guinea. Akhil answered correctly; Ameya guessed Tanzania, which proved to be decisive.

3. The discovery of a major shale oil deposit in the Vaca Muerta formation in 2010 has led to an expansion of oil drilling in the Neuquen province in what country? Answer: Argentina. Both answered correctly.
