Annette Bening to star in Central Park ‘King Lear’

NEW YORK (AP) — Annette Bening, Jessica Collins and Jessica Hecht will play sisters opposite John Lithgow as their addled father this summer in “King Lear” in Central Park.

The Public Theater said Tuesday that Bening will play Goneril, Collins will play Cordelia and Hecht will play Regan. Performances begin July 22 and run through Aug. 17. Daniel Sullivan will direct.

Benning has received Oscar nominations for her performances in “The Grifters,” ”American Beauty,” ”Being Julie” and “The Kids Are All Right.” She last appeared on Broadway in 1988 in “Coastal Disturbances.”

“King Lear” is the second Shakespeare in the Park show, following “Much Ado About Nothing” starring Hamish Linklater and Lily Rabe from June 3-July 6.
