British yacht missing with 4 on board

LONDON (AP) — Officials say a search has been called off for four Britons missing at sea after their yacht apparently capsized in the mid-Atlantic.

The crew of the Cheeki Rafiki had been returning from Antigua Sailing Week in the Caribbean when it ran into trouble about 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) east of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, on Thursday.

U.K. charter and training company Stormforce Coaching said in a statement Sunday the company was “devastated” the search had been ended without success.

The company said the yacht started to take on water Thursday but the situation seemed stable and the yacht was diverted to the Azores.

However, the company said contact was lost Friday. It said it believes the crew had abandoned the ship and boarded its life raft.
