Baltimore police shoot armed bicyclist

BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore police say plainclothes officers shot a man who was armed with a handgun while riding a bicycle.

The shooting occurred on Friday afternoon in east Baltimore. Police say the plainclothes officers tried to talk to the man when he started to flee on the bicycle.

Police say the man fell off his bike and started running. As he ran, police saw that he was armed with a handgun, and one of the officers opened fire. The man was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound. Police say he underwent surgery, and his condition was stable Friday evening.

Internal investigators and the State’s Attorney’s Office will review the circumstances of the shooting.
