The Texas de Brazil churrascaria-style steakhouse will take over the former Buddha Bar space in Mount Vernon Triangle later this year or early next year, making it the Dallas, Texas-based chain’s first location in D.C. proper.

Texas de Brazil has signed a lease for the 9,400 square foot space at 455 Massachusetts Ave. NW that was previously home to Asian-themed restaurant and lounge Buddha Bar, according to a source with knowledge of the deal.

The Brazilian-style steakhouse, which features all-you-can-eat meats served in the churrascaria style as well as a large seasonal salad bar, has a location in Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax, and another in Richmond. The restaurant combines the Brazilian steakhouse tradition with “Texas hospitality,” according to descriptions on its website.

A call to a Texas de Brazil spokeswoman has not been returned, but the restaurant’s website does list a Washington, D.C. restaurant as opening in 2014.

The giant, gold Buddha that took so much work to remove from the Buddha Bar space last month will likely be replaced by wood beams, wrought iron chandeliers and red accents, if the design of the Fairfax location is any indication.
