Flooding may force closure of DC parks

WASHINGTON (AP) — The National Park Service is warning visitors that some parks in and around Washington may close because of flooding over the weekend.

The park service said Friday evening that the National Weather Service is predicting water levels to rise and peak late Saturday or early Sunday.

Some areas that might be affected include low-lying areas of the National Mall, including a portion of Independence Avenue. Visitors to Rock Creek Park should expect downed trees and debris along trails and roads.

East Potomac Park Golf Course and Tennis Center will probably be closed until water levels recede.

Several boat ramps in Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park are closed.
