CBJ sign center Alexander Wennberg to 3-year deal

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed center Alexander Wennberg (VEHN’-burg) to a three-year, entry-level contract.

The 19-year-old Wennberg was Columbus’ first pick, 14th overall, in the 2013 NHL draft.

Wennberg recently completed his rookie season with Frolunda HC of the Swedish Hockey League, finishing second on the club with 16 goals and adding five assists in 50 games. He was a finalist for the league’s Rookie of the Year award.

A year earlier, Wennberg had 14 goals and 18 assists in 46 games for Djurgarden in Sweden’s Allsvenskan League.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound native of Nacka, Sweden, has represented his country at several international events.
