Ecclestone corruption trial may run through July

MUNICH (AP) — A German banker allegedly bribed by Bernie Ecclestone must return to a Munich court to give more testimony — meaning the Formula One boss’s corruption trial will run at least until the end of July.

Ecclestone maintains that Gerhard Gribkowsky blackmailed him into a $44 million payment, but the banker told the court over three days of testimony the money was a bribe.

After the end of testimony Wednesday, presiding Judge Peter Noll asked Gribkowsky to return to court on July 30, German news agency dpa reported.

Prosecutors say Gribkowsky, who’s been convicted of taking the money, agreed to facilitate the sale of Munich-based bank Bayern LB’s 47 percent stake in F1 to a buyer of Ecclestone’s liking.
