NEW YORK (AP) — A minor league catcher in the San Diego Padres’ organization and a free agent pitcher have been suspended 50 games each for drug violations.
The commissioner’s office announced the penalties Monday.
Rodney Daal from the Padres’ system was suspended for a second violation for a drug of abuse. He is on the roster of the Single-A Eugene Emeralds of the Northwest League.
Right-handed pitcher Nick Fleece also was penalized for a second violation for a drug of abuse. His ban will become effective if he signs with a big league organization.
There have been 29 players suspended this year under the minor league drug program.
