WASHINGTON — A judge has released from jail a District of Columbia police officer charged with threatening to kidnap or injure his girlfriend.

Federal prosecutors say that after the threat earlier this week, Calvin Willis put on a uniform and persuaded officers who responded to leave. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kenya Davis said at a preliminary hearing Friday that those officers’ actions are under investigation.

Willis, who is married to another woman, lives in Prince George’s County.

His attorney, Harold Martin, says there have been developments in the case that he can’t comment on. He declined to comment on whether Willis has committed a crime.

The case now goes to a grand jury.

Willis is on administrative leave from the Metropolitan Police Department while the incident is investigated.
