Earthcam releases Washington Monument repair timelapse video

WASHINGTON – Earthcam released this time-lapse video showing the 14 months of repairs to the Washington Monument in about 80 seconds.

The monument was damaged in the Aug. 23, 2011 earthquake. The 5.8 magnitude earthquake was centered in Mineral, Va. Several people were inside the Washington Monument when the earthquake struck (see security camera footage from inside the Washington Monument during the earthquake here).

The Washington Monument is scheduled to re-open Monday after being closed to the public for more than two years while the structure’s earthquake damage was repaired.

The Washington Monument will be open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. starting Monday. For Washington Monument ticket information, check this page on the National Park Service website.
