SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Chargers have selected Notre Dame guard Chris Watt in the third round of the NFL draft.

Watt was taken with the 89th pick overall.

It’s the second straight season the Chargers drafted a player from Notre Dame. A year ago, they moved up in the second round to take linebacker Manti Te’o.

Watt was a three-year starter at Notre Dame. He tore the medial collateral ligament in his right knee in the final regular-season game and missed the Pinstripe Bowl and the Senior Bowl.

Interior line depth was one of the Chargers’ needs. They used their first two picks on defensive players.
