US-Belgium in Brazil scrimmage before World Cup

CHICAGO (AP) — The U.S. soccer team will scrimmage Belgium on June 12 in a closed-door game in Sao Paulo leading to the World Cup.

The U.S. Soccer Federation said Friday the scrimmage will not count as an international match.

The Americans plan to announce their 30-man preliminary roster Monday, two days before they start training in Stanford, California. They play exhibitions against Azerbaijan on May 27 at San Francisco; Turkey on June 1 at Harrison, New Jersey; and Nigeria on June 7 at Jacksonville, Florida.

They travel the following day to their camp in Sao Paulo. At the World Cup they play Ghana on June 16 at Natal, face Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal six days later in the Amazon rain forest city of Manaus and close the group stage against Germany on June 26 at Recife.

Belgium plays Algeria on June 17, Russia five days later and South Korea on June 26.
