Ex-prison guard sentenced in inmate’s beating

BALTIMORE (AP) — A former sergeant Roxbury Correctional Institution (RCI) in Hagerstown has been sentenced to a year in prison for his role in the beating of a state prison inmate.

Josh Hummer of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, was convicted of obstruction of justice. He was sentenced Friday in federal court in Baltimore.

Prosecutors say Hummer was on duty as a sergeant at RCI on March 9, 2008, when officers assaulted Kenneth Davis inside a cell. Authorities say Hummer lied to a Maryland State Police detective about that assault.
