National Stuttering Association – Rockville, MD Chapter

The National Stuttering Association is the largest nonprofit organization that is dedicated wholly to education, empowerment, and advocacy for children, teens, and adults who stutter. We encourage everyone who stutters to pursue their goals to the fullest and let them know that stuttering never has to stand in the way of accomplishing any goal-from being a teacher to a veterinarian, doctor to a lawyer. We have two chapters that are extremely active in the Washington metropolitan area- Northern Virginia and Rockville, Maryland. Every month these chapters host support group meetings where people who stutter can socialize, practice their techniques, and come together in a safe, non-judgmental atmosphere free from bullying and teasing. These two chapters are also on the host committee for the 2014 National Stuttering Association Annual Conference, which will be held right here at the Renaissance Gallery Place in Chinatown-with our themes of “Red, White, Blue, & You,” and “United by Stuttering,” we are going to spread the message that people who stutter are some of the most bravest, compassionate, and dedicated individuals anywhere!
