Selfie City: D.C. enters the picture at No. 25 in the world

Maybe you think D.C. is the most self-centered city in the world. And maybe it is. But when it comes to selfies, we’re No. 25 — even with President Obama  banning them at the White House.

How do we know we’re 25 and who the heck has that much time to compile a list?  Time. As in the magazine.

Combing through 400,000 photos that had geographic tags in Instagram, Time measured 459 cities for the number of selfies posted per 100,000 people. The No. 1 city? Makati City, which is the financial hub of the Philippines, if that means anything. There were 258 selfie-takers per 100,000 people in that region. No. 2 is New York City, Miami (for obvious reasons) is No. 3, the Anaheim-Santa Barbara area near L.A. is No. 4 and Petaling Jaya in Malaisia is No. 5.

For our part, the 66 self-taken pictures per 100,000 people landed D.C. at 25.

We’ve attached a selfie slideshow for your pleasure. Smile!
