The Arc of Northern Virginia is a 52-year old local nonprofit that today represents and serves over 16,000 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD) — such as autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and rare chromosomal disorders — and their families throughout Northern Virginia. Our programs, services, and advocacy provide critical support throughout the entire lifespan of an individual, from diagnosis and early intervention services to aging with a disability.
The Arc of Northern Virginia promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and actively supports their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes. The Arc of Northern Virginia believes that all people have strengths, abilities, and inherent value; are equal before the law; and must be treated with dignity and respect.
The Arc of Northern Virginia provides guidance and support for families living with ID/DD as they navigate the challenges and concerns throughout the life of their loved one. We offer vital programs, services and advocacy, including: case management to coordinate support and services; a broad education curriculum and referral information for families; advocacy on the local, state, and national level to end discrimination and for better and smarter funding for people with disabilities; financial planning and management for families through a pooled Special Needs Trust program; and enrichment programs for people with disabilities that help build social skills, learn about self-advocacy, and network in a supportive environment.
