Armed man shot, killed by Prince George’s County Police

WASHINGTON –An overnight shooting on Saturday leaves one man dead in Prince George’s County after police say he had pulled a gun on them.

The incident occurred around 4 a.m. along the 5200 block of Marlboro Pike in Capitol Heights, near the Lexington Court Apartments where a triple homicide occurred in February.

In this incident, two on-duty officers were nearby when they heard a shot.

Prince George’s County Police spokeswoman Julie Parker says police responded to a call of one shot fired. When the officers saw the armed suspect, he was asked to drop his weapon but he didn’t comply, she says.

When the armed man refused, one of the officers shot him out of a fear for safety. He was pronounced dead at Prince George’s Hospital.

“The officer who discharged his weapon will be on routine administrative leave,” says Parker.
