Which states are most likely to survive the zombie apocalypse?

WASHINGTON — The zombie apocalypse is inevitable.

Consider the signs: brutally long winter, a local bear sloth ate two of its cubs and an airliner mysteriously disappeared into the Indian Ocean (or did it?).

The only real options when it comes to zombies are to flee, fight or surrender, and, according to the folks at Estately, residents of Alaska have the best chance of survival. They have more military personnel per capita than any other state in the nation, maintain a high level of physical fitness and can probably live away from society for long periods of time.

At the bottom of the list is D.C. Yes, we’re a fit city, but people have fewer guns and almost no zombie knowledge, according to Estately. Our neighbors in Virginia and Maryland might fare slightly better, according to the survey. Those states come in at 34th and 41st most likely to survive.

At the bottom of the list is New Jersey. Apparently not even The Boss can beat back those zombies when the apocalypse comes.

Here are the top 10 states most likely to survive:

  • Alaska
  • Wyoming
  • Colorado
  • Idaho
  • New Mexico
  • Montana
  • Arizona
  • Nevada
  • New Hampshire
  • Wisconsin
