Truck overturns, catches fire, blocks I-95 SB

UPDATE 2:23 a.m. 3/10/2014: All lanes have reopened.

EARLIER: WASHINGTON — The southbound lanes of Interstate 95 were closed before Route 198 on Sunday night after a tractor-trailer truck carrying produce collided with a car, overturned and caught fire at about 8 p.m., injuring two people.

Mark Brady of Prince George’s County Fire and Rescue says that one person was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries; another was taken to the Trauma Center with “serious but what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries.”

The crash occurred at Brooklyn Bridge Road, in Laurel, near the Howard/Prince George’s County line, Brady says; he adds that the fire was put out in about 20 minutes, but that hazmat teams had to remove saddle tanks from the truck.

As of 10 p.m., the two left lanes were reopened; the Maryland State Police are investigating the crash.
