WASHINGTON – This weekend’s top concert events include bluegrass, Americana and even a Super Bowl party.

Also, scheduled for Saturday at the Birchmere, James McMurtry is scheduled to perform a solo set.

McMurtry’s catalog is steeped in Americana and rock, but his story-oriented writing style is front and center, making his solo performances particularly rewarding.

Saturday at the 9:30 Club, Greensky Bluegrass is scheduled to perform. The quintet draws from classic bluegrass traditions, but applies a more modern approach to their songwriting.

Iota Club and Cafe is scheduled to host its own free Super Bowl party on Sunday.

The club plans to project the big game onto its stage. They’re also taking reservations for group seating on a first-come, first-served basis.
