WASHINGTON – Embattled Rep. Trey Radel, R-Fla., will resign from Congress on Monday, according to POLITICO.

Radel pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of cocaine possession and was sentenced to a year of probation On Nov. 20, 2013. He admitted to purchasing 3.5 grams of cocaine from an undercover officer in D.C. on Oct. 29.

He entered rehab on Nov. 21 and left nearly a month later.

Radel’s resignation comes after his earlier refusal to resign, saying he wants to “rebuild the trust” of voters. The 37-year-old freshman told reporters at his Cape Coral office that he would cooperate with congressional investigators who were looking into his conduct.

The first-term Republican plans to send a letter to Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, Monday, sources told POLITICO.
