WASHINGTON — Monster trucks will take over the Verizon Center Friday and Saturday for the first time since 2011.

The event will feature six trucks — Grave Digger, Man of Steel, Bounty Hunter, Crushstation, Iron Outlaw and Illuminator — that will compete in two categories: side-by-side racing and freestyle.

But Grave Digger driver Randy Brown says his favorite part is showing off what these trucks can do.

“We love to race. We love the competition, but freestyle is when we get to get out there and … jump cars, vans, buses, whatever,” he says.

“We’re out there to tear it up and have fun.”

Brown has been a team driver for 10 years, and his legendary truck is 32 years old. It was created in 1981 by Dennis Anderson, who originally used scraps of a 1957 Chevy Panel Wagon and other parts he scrounged up from junkyards.

Grave Digger has grown to become one of the most recognizable names in the sport. It is in such high demand that it has been reproduced eight times and has eight drivers that fan out across the globe.
