WASHINGTON – Former D.C. Mayor and current Ward 8 Councilmember Marion Barry has been hospitalized for a week, according to The Washington Post.

A crowd at a democratic mayoral candidates forum on Saturday was told that Barry is “fighting a blood infection.”

Barry has been at Howard University Hospital getting a course of antibiotics.

LaToya Foster, a Barry spokeswoman, said Barry could be released as early as Tuesday.

Barry, who was wounded in a 1978 City Hall shootout, has had a string of health problems over the years, including diabetes, prostate cancer and a kidney transplant.
